The daily prayer offices of the Church are sets of prayers and readings from scripture which have
been organized and handed down to us through the centuries. They are adapted from the "Hours", prayers
which were said by members of monastic religious orders every third hour of the day and night.
We offer them here in hopes that you may find them helpful in your private, family, or small group devotions.
They are available, courtesy of the official Church of England web site, in both contemporary and
traditional Elizabethan forms. These links give you the prayers and readings for today.

About Compline, from the Book of Common Prayer:
The ancient office of Compline derives its name from a Latin word meaning "completion" (completorium).
It is above all a service of quietness and reflection before rest at the end of the day. It is most
effective when the ending is indeed an ending, without additions, conversation or noise.
If there is an address, or business to be done, it should come first. If the service is in church,
those present depart in silence; if at home, they go quietly to bed.
